The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of REI HOTODA to a one-year term as assistant conductor, effective in September 2009. Currently assistant conductor of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Manitoba, Canada, Hotoda has guest conducted such North American and European ensembles as the Baltimore, Colorado, Greater Bridgeport, Edmonton and Thunder Bay symphony orchestras, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Hamilton Philharmonic, Germany’s Staatskapelle Weimar Orchestra, and the International Contemporary Ensemble. As winner of the 2006 Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship she received mentoring from Marin Alsop, conductor of the Concordia Ensemble. In 2005 Hotoda served as assistant conductor of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music and the Hot Springs Music Festival. She studied conducting with Gustav Meier at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Hotoda also holds a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music.
